Correct, AP is a very good suit, one of the best as it's robust for trooping, made from ABS, won't snap like certain suits made from HIPS, 5-7 you
should be fine and it will get you in the 501st too. Ask away here if you need help.

Hello all, I attended Star Wars: A Musical Journey last saturday and had a marvellous time. As a musician, it was great to see and hear the music I had grown up with
performed live. The screen, exhibition and those in outfits were wonderful bonuses.
The only item of armour that I have atm is the Master Replicas Budget helmet and having done some reading since signing up to the UK Garrison today realize that it doesn't make the grade and will require some work. This is probably a good start for me and I can't wait to get my hands on a full set of armour. I look forward to receiving some quality advice from the community here. yatia |

I had a very prompt reply from Mark at AP, excellent service!
Now that I know what the cost implications are, it's time to save, maybe sell my snowboard and look forward to something I've wanted for 30 years! |

You won't regret it, AP suit is good choice as it's robust just right for years worth of trooping

Hi,
I am based in Ireland and I am about to take the leap and buy my first set of Trooper Armour. I thought it was a pretty straight forward affair but after finding this forum (which is great by the way) I am not 100% sure what to go for. This is the suit I was going to buy from a local costume supplier
Now, I know this is just a library pic so I won't know any more about it until I see it "in the flesh", but it seems to be the standard (hi end?) costume sold by licensed vendors. If anyone can advise on what type (AP? FX?? Other?) of costume this is or if it's the one to go for then I would be most grateful for any help. From what I can find out, there are not 501st groups in Ireland so I'm a bit stuck for "experts" to go to for advice. Cheers, Keith EDIT: OK.....supplier details removed. So, I went to have a look at the "Supreme Edition" Trooper costume and boy was I disappointed :( The armour was very good but the quality of he helmet was just shockingly poor (for the price). This is a standard pic used by many retailers of this licensed costume so I would advise caution to anyone thinking of buying a Trooper outfit from vendors using this picture to illustrate the costume. The three biggest issues I had were..... 1) The lenses were not great to see out of (blurry) and I was expecting them to be much darker so people could not see inside the helmet, which wasn't the case. 2) The opening on the bottom of the helmet was very rough, I expected this to be covered with some trim or something. 3) The biggest reason for me not to buy the costume is because of the colour of the helmet. When held up against the gleaming white armour the helmet had a definite yellow tint and does not match the armour at all. I hope this little nugget of advice is useful to anyone looking for a Trooper outfit. As for me......the search continues.

Hi and welcome to the RPB , as with most of these licensed costumes they never live up to the picture ...ever !! The Master replicas helmet is a very good
replica and mant troopers use these now with very slight modifications. We do have a list of recomended suppliers so if you need it let us know.
You can still join the UKG as there are members in Ireland as well ( are you North or republic?) and you might be able to hook up with someone there and chat on the public forums. In memory of Graham Campbell

tangod fett wrote: Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I saw that costume today. I now know that it's just a very expensive toy and not a replica at all. If you have any advice on where to shop that would be great, PM me if need be as I know that it's a bit of a secretive subject. I am in Kildare which is in the Republic (next door to Dublin), so when I get kited out I shall do a bit of digging and see is there are any members local to me. |

Thanks Tony.
Another couple of problems with the licenced helmet are 1) The weight of it. You would need a neck like The Hulk to wear this lid for any length of time. 2) More on those lenses......they are the bubble type but instead of being nice & neat inside the lid they are just glued to the outside of the helmet. As I said before they are not very dark and on the example I saw you can quite easily see the horrible glue around the rim of the lens. 3) The two little round things (can't think what they are called) that most people replace with small speakers, are just glued on as most are. But the problem I see when it comes to modding them is that the plastic/resin behind them (the "chin" part) is about an inch thick and would probably be a headache to drill through without making a pigs ear of it. 4) YELLOW! The more I think about it the more yellow (compared to the armour) that lid was. Just wish I'd taken a few snaps but don't think guy in store wouldn't have been too happy. Anyhoo....i have found myself a complete armour that I am very happy with. It's gonna take a bit of work to trim it and mod it to fit me correctly but after a bit of research and photo comparison I am happy that it's a pretty close replica of the ANH armour. I shall post photo's etc of my progress as I put my armour together. cheers. |

Ok this week i have been working on my legs. I am about 10 days into this armour build now, and dont have that much left to do. I have also started to trim the other small parts needed to finish off such as the drop boxes, thermal detonator and shoulder straps. So far i have completely finished working on the front of the legs. Once i have the front finished i will then work on the back. I find this is best for me so that i get them to fit nicely. You can do all the trimming first if you like but i find it better to leave the rear until last. Also beware that the legs may not be the same size for both left and right, so if you trim them both the same one may end up being smaller than the other. Another thing i leave until the parts are glued it the fine trimming and finishing how the parts fit together on the butt seams. I can get a nice smooth fit, but you may notice i am not as neat as some builders out there as i like my costumes to have that raw screen used look to it where they were not assembled perfectly. Which is not to everyone's taste. Finally this is looking like a trooper suit

Ok i have spent about 14-15 days working on my new armour now and this week i have just been finishing things off. I hope to have everything wrapped up by the weekend. I have glued on the shoulder straps
Painted the ab plate buttons, humbrol #14 french blue and humbrol #5 dark admiralty grey
And riveted the thigh ammo pack on the right leg
The only things left to do now are glue on the rivet covers on the ammo belt, finish the back of the shins and rivet the sniper knee plate on and piece
together the thermal detonator |

Ok i tried everything on tonight for a quick test fit and everything seems to be where it should be I am gluing the overlap strips on the back of the legs and while i am waiting for the glue to dry i took a couple of pics to show the strapping inside the main armour. Nothing much to see here, its all pretty standard stuff. But i have used dungaree bib and brace style adjustable thingymajigs so that the ab plate and chest plate are adjustable. This is so that i can move the parts up or down for a nice snug fit.

OK here we are i have finally finished all the main suit. All i have left to assemble is the thermal detonator and then the helmet The armour body
The finished belt, i used plastic weld to put the rivet covers on and the drop boxes are rivited to the 1 inch white elastic which is simply looped over the
belt so they can freely move around
The legs with the sniper knee plate and ammo pack. The joining strips on the back of the calfs are 1 inch wide, where as the rest of the joining strips on
the legs are 25mm

Looking great
Andy,
I really like TM's work, it's CraZy well made gear. Can't write enough on how good his work is 12/10. I tried so hard to worm my way in and get a TM (Troopermaster) suit, but sadly I was unable to get hold of the master
Still I was more than lucky to find a full set of GF armour, and for the age of these suits now, and the detail well what more could I ask for. With a little help from Tangod fett I was able to run the minefield of poor knocked out suits to the more 'works of art' that are out there somewhere (Smoke n
Mirrors)
TE-TM-GF Some of the best and well worth doing your homework for
Loving the one legged Stormy look keep on building great work...
