Seeing Tony's other thread made me think of another topic.
I see a lot of people using original parts (including myself on some occasions) to recreate props.
However, I'm trying to decide if I prefer original parts or a licensed replica.
My thoughts - Original parts are as close as you're going to get in some cases.
However, it's still not the original. Also, I'm never happy with my own work.
While a licensed replica is sometimes (or quite often) not as close, it has an official feel to it and I don't have the same issue as when I build things myself.
Theres also the other option - parts/replica's made by the original makers - as close as you can get and still has an official sort of buzz (if you know what I mean).
The downside of this is when you get to know these makers and they become normal people, if that makes sense too????
Saying that, I'm still on the fence - I find myself collecting original parts (graflex, for example), sometimes getting replica parts (er - graflex again) and also licensed things too.
I just wondered what others thoughts are on this?
