Anyone know what I need, I have the plaster mould, just need to make the item in rubber, as it needs to flex.
What i need is a website, or the ingredients I need to have a crack at it myself
Cheers, Tony V

it would depend on what parts you're making amte, and what you'd like to make them in silicone, latex, poly urethan or just plain urethane. Oh and if
you use the last two make sure you use proper repirators with filters for inorganic and organic vapours as they can give off some very toxic gasses when
curing. So doing it in a well ventilated space would help also. Oh and i would recommend steering away from plaster as the mold fibre glass, epoxy or syntatic
dough would be better....though the last is really expensive...good old F/G lass would be your best option....Plaster and rubbers don't really go well
together save for latex,m as it's too porous, especially silicones in plaster as they tend to lock into the pores and you can't get eht buggers out,
unless it's sealed well enough...Depending on what you're making orgainic stuff I'd use silicones probably platinum based if it's in contact
with the skin. machine parts I'd go for a urethane of the self skinning variety.

What if you sealed the plaster with spray primer and then used release agents would that work Martin? Let us know what you molding Tony as we have a thread
running on this (moulding a rubber gun) on the props page that may come up with someting. Also check out brickintheyard's page on you tube as they have
something like this as a video...hey its not anything purvy your making is it Tony

Yep flexible urethane would be your best bet but you could use a another urethane to mold it in but you'd have to give the mold a spray with paffilm or
even a wax release. If I were you mate I'd give the guys at mouldlife a ring and ask what would be the best way of doing it.. a good old fasahioned F/G
mold as i said would be a good thing...You could even do a bondo mold, which is a 50/50 mix of bondo P38 filler and F/G resin as the filler is simply resin
with added talc and a few other bits. I't quite a simple thing to do. the one thing to be careful with urethanes as i said is the fumes given off. That and
they are an exothermic compound, so the thicker they are the quicker the cure time as the heat generated is larger than a thin piece.. If you need any more
help just holla.

Oh and if you do use the plaster mold I find the "lactacyd" the ladies soap works well as a release too...Don't ask me why. I also uyse a mix of
fairy liquid and IPA alcohol too as a mold release on F/G moulds. the soap should seal the stione so you can mould the piec. I know it works with silicones not
too sure about urethanes though. Simply brush it in the mold and allow to dry and then do again and mould.
The spray primer would work to an extent as I used a similar technique on the Pred Bio i made a while back, the problem would be that the primer would transfer to the finished piece, plus with urethaens genrating heat i'm not too sure what the fire hazards would be

Yeah know what you mean Martin ,I was thinking that about the primer but if you let it dry out for a lengthy period then give it a sand with some fine grit wet
n dry or wire wool, then use plenty of release it shoul be ok. I have taken molds of masters that were painted to seal them and they have been ok .....so far
!!
The PT flex 60 on its own sounds good for what you are doing Tony as martin said try mouldlife as they do it and if its like urethane resin its real easy to use .Just go to the brickintheyard page on you tube and they have some great vids there and they also have colour pigment too.
